THE peso gained as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) resumed lowering interest rates, and stocks also rose following a holiday break — joining other markets in the region that rebounded on Thursday — after US President Donald Trump said that he was postponing the implementation of sweeping reciprocal tariffs announced last week.

The currency closed at P57.35 to the dollar, up by four centavos, while the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) added 71.48 points, or 1.19 percent, and ended the day at 6,077.82.
