MANILA, Philippines — The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across the island while the easterlies will bring isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the weather bureau said Friday.
Despite the rain forecast, however, some areas will continue to sizzle for most part of the day with "danger level" heat indices ranging from 42°C to 46°C, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The ITCZ is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rainfall over Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental.
Flash floods or landslides are possible in these areas, Pagasa said.
The Ridge of a High-Pressure Area (HPA) affecting extreme northern Luzon will cause partly cloudy skies over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
Meanwhile, the whole archipelago will still experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.
As of 2 a.m., no low-pressure area has been monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, Pagasa said.
The heat index could peak at 46°C in Aparri, Cagayan, and 45°C in Dagupan, Pangasinan.
A 44°C heat index is forecast in Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; and Subic Bay, Olongapo.
These areas may experience 43°C:
- Batac, Ilocos Norte;
- Cacnotan, La Union;
- Echague, Isabela;
- Baler, Aurora;
- Casiguran, Aurora;
- Camiling, Tarlac;
- Sangley Point, Cavite City;
- Tanauan, Batangas;
- Infanta, Quezon;
- Alabat, Quezon;
- Daet, Camarines Norte;

A 42°C heat index is likely at:
- Ninoy Aquino International Airport;

- Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya;
- Iba, Zambales;
- Los Baños, Laguna;
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro;
- Cuyo, Palawan;

Heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is factored in with actual air temperature.
Prolonged exposure under "danger" level conditions, ranging from 42°C to 51°C, could result in heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
