LEADERS of the House minority bloc on Wednesday called on Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Jason Aquino and officials of the NFA Council to resign, citing their failure to address the rice shortage that has jacked up retail prices.

House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez and his deputies Alfredo Garbin of Ako Bicol party-list and Jose Atienza of Buhay party-list, made the call a day after Piñol announced that the country’s rice inventory stood at 1,320,927 metric tons (MT) or good for only 40 days, less than half of the required 90-day national buffer stock.
