I HAVE commented before that it is quite fine for US President Donald Trump to proclaim “America First” as his main political and economic agenda, just as it is equally fine for leaders of either the Philippines or Malaysia to also put their respective countries first in politics and economics. But one has to be “smart” in doing so, carefully crafting or, in the case of the US, maintaining a leading position if not in the world then at least in a region. A sense of “moving beyond” and a touch of balance has to be present in such political and economic moves.
