FOREIGN Affair Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano assured his Indonesian counterpart that the Philippines was ready to help his country in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck the island province of Lombok, which killed about 500 people, his office said in a statement released on Thursday.

“As a neighbor and close friend in Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), we stand ready to lend a helping hand much like you have done when we were struck with disasters,” Cayetano told Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi during his official visit to Jakarta on Monday.
