In a bid to revive the country’s billion-dollar coconut industry, the Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine Coconut Authority and various industry groups have been actively finding ways to boost the local production and exports of Philippine coconuts.

The Philippines is currently the world’s second-biggest coconut producer, with 3.5 million hectares planted with the crop and produced 15 million metric tons. The government, however, had lacked efforts in the past years to maximize local production, which in turn might boost trading grains in the export market, according to Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol.
