THE election season has begun. The period for the filing of the certificates of candidacy (CoCs) has passed. The political circus is about to descend upon us, with a plethora of candidates, from the serious to the comical, from the returning veterans to the neophytes, once again visiting our social imaginations. They would be barging uninvited into our private spaces, more so now that it is expected that they would all take advantage of social media. This is the period in our political lives that politics is turned into a marketplace, where politicians become both sellers and products, and we voters are turned into buyers and consumers.
