PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte allayed public fears of martial law nationwide after he ordered the deployment of troops in parts of the Philippines to contain insurgency.

In a media interview after the inauguration of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport on Tuesday night, Duterte said Memorandum Order 32 was his way of quelling “lawless violence and acts of terror” in the Bicol region, Samar, Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental and was not a "prelude" to martial law contrary to claims by the opposition.
