While both Flores de Mayo and the Santacruzan are religious events and not just fashion shows on open streets, it is important to understand that the processions are venerations to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

As such, devotees hold lighted candles (electronic lamps in the urban areas) and sing Marian prayers as they walk. Males participating in the processions, particularly the consorts, wear the traditional Barong Tagalog and females wear any Filipiniana-inspired attire.
