THE minority bloc at the House of Representatives is calling for the resignation of three officials allegedly responsible for driving up the price of rice because of a perceived shortage in supply.
Minority Leader Danilo Suarez and his deputies Alfredo Garbin of Ako Bicol party-list and Jose Atienza of Buhay party-list made the call a day after Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol announced that the country’s rice inventory of 1,320,927 metric tons (MT) was good for only 40 days, which was lower than the required 90-day buffer stock.
