NEARLY 2,000 people in Basilan have been living in temporary shelters for over a month since armed clashes broke out between government forces and the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sumisip town, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

“We are deeply concerned about the effect of prolonged displacement on these families. Unable to take care of their farms, they struggle to provide for their loved ones,” Piotr Dregiel, ICRC office head in Zamboanga, said.
