THE summit meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) will take place in Bangkok soon, as it is Thailand’s turn this year to hold the Asean chairmanship. The summit, which is usually held annually two months earlier, was slightly delayed this year because of Thailand’s general elections last month. Amid these global uncertainties over the prospects of economic development, there is a moderate degree of expectations on the issues up for discussion among the leaders of the Asean member states.
