Thousands of families in Marikina City were evacuated on Saturday as the Marikina river reached critical level.
As of 3:50 p.m., 3,648 families have moved to evacuation centers, according to the Marikina City’s Public Information Office (PIO).
The river’s water level rose to 17.13 meters as of 12 noon, Philippine Atmospheric Astronomical and Geophysical Services Administration hydrologist Richard Orendain said in a news briefing.
This prompted the city government to raise second level alarm warning and order preemptive evacuation. A second level alarm I sdeclared when the river reaches 16 meters and above.
