The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will start next week its assessment of the situation in Mindanao to determine if extending martial law in the conflict-stricken region is necessary.

In a news conference in Malacañang, Armed Forces chief Carlito Galvez Jr. said military officials would visit the Eastern Mindanao Command and Western Mindanao Command next week to assess the implementation of martial law, which was imposed following the terrorist attack on Marawi City in May 2017.
