With the many issues facing public school teachers — too much paperwork, extra workloads and insufficient salaries, among others — it is not surprising that taking courses for their professional advancement is one of their lowest priorities. But the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) gives teachers an alternative. MOOC is offered by the American English of the Regional English Language Office (RELO) under the Public Affairs Sector of the United States Embassy in Manila.

Filipino teachers across the country are encouraged to start their professional development journey with free international courses developed by top-rank US universities and sponsored by the US Department of State. Course developers include the University of Pennsylvania, University of Oregon, University of Iowa, George Mason University, World Learning and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
