It was in 1991 that then president Corazon Aquino signed Presidential Proclamation 683 officially declaring February as National Arts Month (NAM).
Commemorated since under the auspices of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), NAM was created to fulfill the agency’s mandate “to conserve, promote and protect the nation’s historical and cultural heritage; and preserve and integrate traditional culture and its various creative expressions as a dynamic part of the national cultural mainstream.”
