THE Philippines placed a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild pigs and their products, including pork meat and semen originating from countries hit by African Swine Fever (ASF) to protect the local swine industry.

The ban came at the onset of the “ber” months – September, October, November and December – when pork products, particularly ham, were sought after.
