Sixty-five years ago today, on December 30, 1953, Ramon Magsaysay became the 7th President of the Philippines.

Magsaysay, “Monching” to relatives and friends, “My Guy” and “Man of the Masses” to the Filipino electorate, was elected as the country’s Head State in the political exercise held November that year, beating incumbent Elpidio Quirino.
