MADRID: Spain’s governing Socialist Party has won the country’s parliamentary election, but will need backing from smaller parties to stay in power. And for the first time since the 1970s, a far-right party will have members in Spain’s lower house of parliament.

With nearly all ballots counted from Sunday election, the Socialists headed by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez won nearly 29 percent of the votes. They captured 122 seats in the 350-seat Congress of Deputies.
