Vic Saludar overcame a sluggish opening round to defeat Japanese challenger Masataka Taniguchi via unanimous decision, retaining his World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight title on Tuesday at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
Saludar, a 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist, banked on surgical straight punches and stinging jabs to keep up with Taniguchi’s aggression from round two to six.
