We are not surprised that most of our senators did not rush to grant Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th his request that they join him in his petition to the Supreme Court to challenge the constitutionality of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 572. This presidential directive revoked the amnesty granted earlier to Trillanes by the government of former president Benigno Aquino 3rd.

We say this because we still remember vividly how Trillanes last year insulted all his Senate colleagues by calling them “cowards” with their tails between their legs. This unpardonable breach of parliamentary decency and courtesy did not even merit a reprimand at that time.... Instead, the chamber chose to let the insult enter one ear and exit the other.
