THE first conviction related to the siege of Marawi by Islamic militants in 2017 was handed down on Tuesday by a local court, which found a man guilty of recruiting people to support the war against the government and was sentenced to 40 years in prison with no parole.

Judge Felix Reyes of Branch 70 of the Taguig Regional Trial Court found Nur Supian guilty of terrorism acts, while his co-accused Mavin Ahmad, Salip Ismael Abdulla and Issa Ukkang were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
