A project being undertaken by the Ilocos Norte Research and Experiment Center (Inrec), hosted by the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Ilocos Region office, showed a number of traditional rice varieties have a better nutritional profile than modern varieties and respectable yields.

Funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research, the project “Collection, Characterization, and Seed Multiplication of Traditional Rice Varieties in Region 1” aims to collect, characterize and evaluate traditional varieties to mass produce them so quality seeds can be provided to stakeholders such as rice growers and scientists.
