UN chief moves versus violence against women

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres decried violence against women and pointed out the UN’s initiatives in preventing it in its own ranks and in its member-nations in a speech delivered on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

“Violence against women and girls is a global pandemic,” Guterres said. “It is an issue of fundamental human rights. This is also a deeply political issue.”
