Most Filipinos do not realize how vital small and medium enterprises are to the economic development of the country. When comparing, for example, a small retail company and a large multinational clothing distributor, one would say that the latter brings more value to the economy. This then leads to saying that larger companies are more important than small companies on the basis of the value they create. While it intuitively makes sense to put more attention to large companies, we might be overlooking opportunities by neglecting the more numerous small businesses in the Philippines.
