SIGNAL No. 1 remains in parts of Visayas and Mindanao as tropical depression "Samuel" slightly accelerated as it moved westward over the Philippine Sea, the state-run weather bureau said on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration's (Pagasa) said in its 5 p.m. weather bulletin that "Samuel" was spotted 505 kilometers (km) east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 65 kph.
