The Vatican has named two Philippine churches minor basilicas — the St. John the Baptist Parish Church in Badoc, Ilocos Norte and the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel in New Manila, Quezon City — a papal recognition of their “dignity,” church leaders said on Sunday.
The Holy See approved the petitions of Laoag Bishop Renato Mayugba and Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco to recognize the dignity of their respective centers of worship in their dioceses to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on November 30, 2018.
