Four teams will represent the country in the 2017 World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) World Finals and World Amateur Golfers Invitational (WAGI) to be held from November 19 to 25 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Leading the Philippines’ campaign is Gerald Katigbak who’ve won Division 1 of the WAGC National Finals last month at Riviera Golf Club after carding 146 aggregate points against Tonito Payumo’s 149.
Joining Katigbak are four other WAGC champions namely August Cruz (Division 2), Mabel Salivio (Division 3), Mark Leviste (Division 4) and Alfredo Abarintos (Division 5). Errol Chua will serve as the team captain.
The Philippine team will fit its prowess against rivals from more than 40 nations.
“There’s no other great feeling than representing your country in a world stage. The overall objective is beyond you,” said Payumo.
Meanwhile, three teams are all set to vie for honors in the invitational tournament of the WAGC.
Chua and Francis Talion will compose the first team while the tandem of Mickey Tan and Oliver Gan and the duo of Payumo and Don Padilla will be the second and third teams, respectively.
WAGC is the largest amateur golf tournament in the world with national championships in over 40 countries.
