(From remarks delivered by Tan Qingsheng, political counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines at the Christmas gathering he hosted for the Philippine media on December 14, 2017, at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.)

THE year 2017 has been momentous and memorable for both of our great nations. The Philippine government has been forging ahead with its “Build, build, build” strategy, pursuing social-economic progress, improving the people’s welfare, and securing an excellent Asean chairmanship. As for China, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held in last October has not only laid out strategies and blueprints for China’s own development, but reaffirmed China’s sincere commitment to building a community of shared future for mankind. I am convinced that a China that enjoys stronger domestic growth and closer integration with the world will surely bring about opportunities of win-win cooperation for Asia-Pacific and the Philippines in particular.
