THE MMDA will not stop its anti-smoking campaign despite court ruling.
MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez also on Wednesday said their anti-smoking campaign is legally supported by RA 9211.
“We are not stopping the campaign on anti- smoking. We have RA 9211 to back us up. The Philippines is a signatory to a treaty,” she added.
Jimenez pointed out that one of the MMDA’s mandates is health and sanitation including environmental protection based on RA 7924.
She said the MMDA was deputized by the Department of Health and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and a resolution passed by the Metro Manila Council authorizing the agency to enforce the law as well as local ordinances against smoking.
