(UPDATE) DEFEATED vice presidential bet Walden Bello was arrested on Monday by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reportedly in connection with cyberlibel charges.

QCPD director BGen. Remus Medina said Bello, 76, of Barangay Holy Spirit, also in the city, was detained at the Police Station 8 in P. Tuazon Boulevard.

A former member of the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2015, Bello was arrested past 5 p.m. at his residence.

The human rights activist was arrested on the basis of a warrant issued by Judge Retrina Espe-Fuentes of the Davao City Regional Trial Court's Branch 10.

Bello is facing charges of violation of Republic Act 10175 or the "Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012."

The court recommended a bail of P48,000 for his temporary liberty, the QCPD said.

Bello was the running mate of presidential candidate and labor leader Leody de Guzman in the May 9, 2022 elections.
